Dumb, Dumb, Dumb: I Love It
If you're on the prowl for dumb stuff, point your browser to www.archiemcphee.com, “Outfitters of Popular Culture.” The online arm of the Seattle-based novelty shop and catalog Archie McPhee is stocked with everything you've been looking for to spice up your centerpieces (rubber chickens, $9.95), dress up you CEO (head-to-toe sanitary suit, $5.95), and lighten up the cocktail party (four pairs of “deluxe nerd glasses,” $10.95).
While the inventory sometimes crosses the line from sophomoric to gross (a computer station urinal?), overall it's a delightful mix of kitsch. Click on the “Nerd Essentials” link to find a little squeaky toy Buddha with a laptop computer or a 5½-inch high computer voodoo doll, among other essentials.
From the Web site, you can sign up for Archie McPhee's e-newsletter, which will arrive monthly with intelligence on the latest oddities in stock, or order the company catalog. If you can't get online, call the company at (425) 349-3009.
