POST-9/11 PERSPECTIVE FROM THE PODIUM

The September 11 attacks have influenced what people want to hear — and from whom they want to hear it. Here's a sampling of speakers who address today's political and leadership challenges with a post-terrorist perspective.

  1. Former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. GiulianiTime magazine's 2001 Person of the Year is likely to command an elite fee for his services, considering the $100,000-plus fees for big names such as retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf and former President Bill Clinton. (Fee: Contact Washington Speakers Bureau)

  2. Thomas Von Essen — Commissioner of the Fire Department of New York under Giuliani, Von Essen's department lost more than 350 staff members to the terrorist attacks. He speaks on overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds and leadership lessons from September 11. (Fee range: $15,000 to $25,000, Washington Speakers Bureau)

  3. Bill Richardson — Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, Richardson has a unique credential: He's the last American official to negotiate with the Taliban in Afghanistan. (Fee: Contact Leading Authorities Inc.)

  4. George Mitchell — A 2000 Nobel Peace Prize nominee, the former senator is now chairman of the Sharm El-Sheikh Fact Finding Committee, an international commission exploring ways to end the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. (Fee: Contact Leading Authorities Inc.).

  5. Judith Kipper — Kipper is a consultant to ABC News on international affairs and is director of the Middle East Studies program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. (Fee: Contact Leading Authorities Inc.)

  6. James Lee Witt — Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency from 1993 to 2001, Witt is credited with transforming FEMA into a more effective organization. He now heads a company providing disaster-mitigation solutions. (Fee: Contact Leading Authorities Inc.)
