POWER PLAY: CIC APPOINTS NEW LEADER
The Convention Industry Council, an umbrella organization representing 29 organizations involved in the meetings, convention, and exhibition industries, has appointed Mary Power as its new president and CEO, its third leader in as many years. Power was most recently U.S. director of conference sales for Bass Hotels and Resorts in Washington, D.C.
Power will be based in McLean, Va. at the headquarters of Association Management Group, CIC's management firm. She brings more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality and association industries to her new position. Among her achievements at Bass Hotels and Resorts was her participation in an international task force to develop an electronic-meetings Web site and development of a meeting planner training/certification program for Latin America.
Previously, Power served as regional director of sales at Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts before becoming director of association sales in 1996. She has also held management positions with Sheraton Hotel Corp., including corporate brand manager/director of association sales and Sheraton Washington Hotel director of sales.
