The city of Milwaukee lost one of its best ambassadors, and VISIT Milwaukee one of its finest representatives, when longtime associate Charles S. "Chuck" Davis died unexpectedly January 9 at the age of 72.

Davis's 22-year career with VISIT Milwaukee began in 1981, and he retired in 2003. He was promoted to director of sales in 1985 and to vice president of association sales in 1989. His markets included religious, fraternal, associations, and military accounts, and he was responsible for booking major conventions such as the American Legion, Religious Conference Management Association, Women's International Bowling Congress, and the National Conference of State Legislators.

A member of RCMA, Davis also was a past member of its board of directors. Other memberships included Destination Marketing Association International, Meeting Professionals International, Wisconsin Society of Association Executives, American Society of Association Executives, and Wisconsin State Lions.

Davis is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his son, Michael; his daughter, Laura; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held January 16 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Delafield, Wis.
