The Convention Industry Council has named Talley Management Group Inc. as its new association management company, effective immediately. CIC, an umbrella organization of 33 associations representing the meetings, convention, and exposition industry, has been managed by Management Options Inc., Washington, D.C., since May 1, 2006.

CIC staff will continue to be based in the metro D.C. area. TMG, with offices in Mount Royal, N.J., and Alexandria, Va., has 65 full-time employees. “TMG will be hiring qualified industry professionals for the CIC staff roles. We are working with the CIC Executive Committee to determine the exact needs and qualifications,” said Gregg Talley, CAE, president of TMG. Talley said he and Tina Wehmeir, managing partner, D.C. office, “will remain involved with the board on strategic planning and external relations.”

Brenda Anderson, CIC’s chairwoman and CEO of the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives, said in a press release that “based on our strategic planning process begun in December 2007, the Board identified the key attributes needed in our management partner going forward. TMG meets and exceeds these required parameters.”

Deborah Sexton, president and CEO of the Professional Convention Management Association, treasurer of CIC, and chairwoman of the association management company selection task force, added that they looked for a company that had deep knowledge and experience in the convention industry and a firm understanding and appreciation of CIC’s programs and long-term vision. Talley is a past president of PCMA.

TMG currently manages 22 national and international associations and societies. The company also provides convention management to more than 20 national and international organizations, including one of North America’s largest conventions, the International Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous.
