Anyone for a Dog-Shaped Hotel?
Interested in bizarre accommodations? Check out “Unusual Hotels of the World” at www.unusualhotelsoftheworld.com. Launched by U.K.-based friends Simon Penn and Steve Dobson, the site features a collection of hotels rated in five categories — different, unusual, wacky, outrageous, and wow.
The biggest wow is the Dog Bark Park Inn in Cottonwood, Idaho. It's shaped like a beagle and was built by chain saw artist Dennis Sullivan. The most spectacular property is an underwater hotel in Dubai called Hydropolis. Under construction 66 feet below sea level in the Persian Gulf, Hydropolis will feature 220 underwater suites, plus a ballroom that rises above the water's surface. The hotel is slated to open in late 2007 but is already accepting group inquiries.
Then there's the Ariau Amazon Towers, a 228-unit complex built in trees in the Amazon. The rooms come with air conditioning and private baths and are connected by catwalks. There are two restaurants and enough meeting space to accommodate 450.
