This March, Kalahari Resort in Sandusky Ohio, will break ground on a $22 million expansion to more than double the size of its convention center. The expansion will increase the center's capacity from 2,200 to 5,200 attendees. The 120,000-square-foot addition will bring the total square footage to 215,000. It will include a 38,000-square-footgrand ballroom/expo center, 12,000-square-foot junior ballroom, 14 meeting rooms, an outdoor plaza, and 30,000 square feet of pre-function space. The resort features a full-service spa, the Safari Outdoor Adventure and Animal Park, and the largest indoor waterpark in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., has undergone a $1.5 million upgrade to its audiovisual systems in all meeting rooms. The business center has new computers, and the resort purchased 4,500 new 10-hour ergonomic banquet chairs. Besides the 100,000-square-foot convention center, the facility has 742 guest rooms, an indoor and an outdoor waterpark, an indoor theme park, a full-service spa, a 15-screen cinema, and a 27-hole golf course.

Club Med Sandpiper Bay opened on January 12 in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The all-inclusive family resort, which has a conference center and meeting facilities able to accommodate up to 550 people, is also the flagship of Club Med “premium Sports” resorts, offering training in tennis, golf, and fitness. Facilities include 21 tennis courts, and 18-hole golf course, a Tom Fazio II-designed practice facility including a putting green and driving range, and a pro shop and clubhouse.
