The News: Five-bedroom townhouses units, Ny-um-ba, are under construction.
Specs: 10 new units, with fully equipped kitchen, recreation room featuring full bar, pool table; six-person outdoor whirlpool tub. The recreation room can be reconfigured as a meeting room. Kalahari also has a 100,000-square-foot convention center.
Time frame: Townhouses open in December.
Chula Vista Resort
Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
The news: Chula Vista completed the first phase of a $200 million renovation and expansion.
Specs: 220 new condominiums, a new 80,000-square-foot indoor waterpark, and a redesign of the Cold Water Canyon Golf Course. The new two- and three-bedroom Villas of the Dells condos are privately owned, but available for rental. A 250,000-square-foot Expo Center is planned. Chula Vista has 540 guest rooms and a convention center overlooking the Wisconsin River.
Time Frame: New condos, indoor waterpark, and golf course redesign opened in summer 2006. Expo Center is slated to open in late 2008.
Great Wolf Lodge
Mason, Ohio, and Grapevine, Texas
The News: A new meeting facility, Great Wolf Conference Center, has opened in Mason, Ohio; and a new Great Wolf Lodge is being built in Grapevine, Texas.
Specs: Like the other Great Wolf properties, the Mason Great Wolf has excellent water facilities, and the Mason property now has a conference center with 40,000 square feet of meeting space, including three ballrooms.
The Grapevine property will be a 400-plus all-suite resort with an 80,000-square-foot indoor waterpark and 10,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
Time Frame: The Mason conference center is up and running; the Grapevine facility is expected to open by year's end.
Regal Sun Resort
Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The News: The Grosvenor Resort will become the Regal Sun after a $25 million renovation.
Specs: All 626 guest rooms and suites, the 19,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, the lobby, the restaurants and lounges, the pool area, guest room corridors, and pre-function space are being renovated.
Time Frame: Completed in September 2007
Sheraton Gateway
Atlanta
The News: A major renovation has upgraded the hotel's 395 guest rooms, main lobby, fitness facilities, and public spaces.
Specs: The hotel includes a 13,000-square-foot facility for meetings and conferences with 90 percent of the function and breakout space located on one floor. Guest rooms now feature the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed and 32-inch LCD flat-panel TVs. Bathrooms have granite countertops and tile floors.
Time Frame: Completed in June 2007
Bedford Springs Resort
Bedford, Pa.
The News: A $120 million restoration and expansion of this circa 1796 property, which was closed for 21 years prior to the restoration, has been completed.
Specs: This 2,200-acre resort, a Benchmark Hospitality International property, features 216 guest rooms, the 30,000-square-foot Springs Eternal Spa, and an 18-hole golf course.
Time Frame: Reopened July 12, 2007
Hilton San Diego
The News: A $13 million renovation of guest rooms, public spaces, and the main pool
Specs: The hotel has 357 rooms and suites and is located on Mission Bay.
Time Frame: The first phase of the renovation is now complete.
News Makers
The Atlanta Chapter of the Business Marketing Association has named Stacey Krizan to the board as co-chair of its membership task force. Krizan is CEO of The WOW Factory, an Atlanta-based event marketing and production company.
The Orange County Convention Center has promoted Terry Devitt, a 10-year veteran with the center, to director of event management and exhibitor services.
