New Edition, New Ideas

Calculating return on investment and striking strategic partnerships are just two new topics covered in the fifth edition of Professional Meeting Management, the Professional Convention Management Association's manual for meeting professionals.

The 800-page textbook, edited by Glen Ramsborg, PhD, PCMA's senior director of education, includes fast facts, case studies, concepts applied to realistic situations, and more than 50 checklists, spreadsheets, and timelines. It also covers new information on issues ranging from room block management, contract negotiation strategies, sponsorships and partnerships, and green meetings, to multiculturalism, security, ethics, risk management, meetings technology, and ROI.

The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, Culinary Institute of America, International Association of Conference Centers, St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission, and the Washington State Con-vention and Trade Center are some of the organizations using PMM5. Several universities, including Arizona State University; University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and the University of New Hampshire, also use the text.

The fifth edition — released 20 years after the publication of the first edition — will become the recommended resource for the CMP exam starting in 2007. For more information or to purchase a copy, go to www.kendallhunt.com/pcma.
