Stephen King's World

Welcome to Bangor, Maine, where the frights and sights popularized in the novels of Stephen King are part of a tour open to groups meeting in King's hometown.

Named after one of King's bestselling novels, the Tommyknockers and More Tour takes visitors past places made famous in the author's books that are set in the fictional town of Derry, which is based on Bangor, including the “sematary” from the book, Pet Sematary. It also features real-life landmarks, such as the laundromat where he worked while writing his first book, Carrie; and King's home, which is a drive by, not a stop. Throughout the tour, the guide talks about the author's life and works.

Sponsored by the Bangor CVB, the tour has been quite a draw since it was launched a few years ago, with King's blessing. The bureau has run up to 10 private tours per year for groups, in addition to four public tours. For more information, go to www.bangorcvb.org.
