Theme Parks & Waterparks Update
Europe in the Air, a ride film that sends guests soaring over landmarks of the European countryside such as Stonehenge in England and the Colosseum in Rome, opened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg earlier this year in Williamsburg, Va. Also llumiNights, the park's first-ever nighttime light show, has debuted.
The $75 million World of Color, a water-and-light attraction, opened in June at Disney's California Adventure Park in Anaheim, Calif.
Omaka Rocka, a new ride, has opened at Aquatica Water Park at SeaWorld Orlando. Passengers in two-person rafts soar through the ride's semi-opaque tubes and into a series of mini-funnels.
Kalahari Resort-Ohio, since opening in 2005, has completed $77 million in expansion projects, including a 77,000-square-foot outdoor waterpark, which opened in May. Also new is its Safari Outdoor Adventure Park, featuring zip line tours, a ropes course, and climbing walls, ideal for customized teambuilding activities. The Sandusky, Ohio, property has 100,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
At Lost Island in Waterloo, Iowa, Wailua Kapua, a hydromagnetic water coaster that uses magnetic force to propel rafts uphill, has opened.
Scorpion's Tail, the nation's first “aquaLoop” ride, opened on Memorial Day weekend at Noah's Ark Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. The 10-stories-tall slide is the first looping tube waterslide in the U.S. and also the tallest and largest of its kind in the world.
