Major Expansion of Vermont Lodge Opens
The two-year-old Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe, Vt., opens a major expansion this month that will more than double its guest capacity and add a multipurpose theater. The project expands the guest room count at the property from 139 to 312, and adds the 420-seat Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center, which can be used for lectures, presentations, and multimedia events. For meetings, the new theater joins the Lodge's 12,100 square feet of meeting space and Stowe Mountain's 30,000-square-foot base lodge, which is used as function space when ski season is over. The Lodge also features a 21,000-square-foot spa and wellness center, ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes, a heated pool, and an two 18-hole golf courses.
Sundance Resort has opened the Redford Conference Center, which offers 3,500 square feet of meeting space. The conference center's opening coincides with the final stages of a multimillion-dollar lodging room renovation of the 5,000-acre destination resort founded by actor and director Robert Redford in Sundance, Utah. The reception areas are designed to bring the outdoors in, and the rustic, yet elegant, design is evident in the center's stone hearths and use of reclaimed barn wood. Environ-mentally friendly elements include a geothermal heating and cooling system. In addition, 95 percent of the lights in the new conference center are LED or fluorescent, the carpet in the ballroom is 100 percent PVC-free, and the hearthstone was locally quarried. Besides hosting external groups' meetings, the Redford Conference Center will be home to Sundance leadership conferences, the Sundance Author Series, specialty retreats, and topical public policy summits.
Four Seasons Resort Vail is set to open this month. The resort, located in the alpine community of Vail Village, features 121 guest rooms, an 11,000-square-foot spa, an all-season outdoor pool, and a full-service ski concierge. It has 8,510 square feet of meeting and function space, including a terrace that can be used for events and receptions.
The Talking Stick Resort, on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Scottsdale, officially debuted in June. The 15-story property has 497 guest rooms and more than 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor conference space. Also featured are a cigar and wine bar and eight restaurants, including Ocean Trail, with 360-degree views on the top level. Talking Stick offers a variety of high-tech slot machines and table games. The 13,000-square-foot Spa at Talking Stick is located on the 14th floor. There are steam and sauna rooms, and a fully equipped fitness facility. The spa also has its own dining area and deck.
In St. Charles, Ill., Q Center offers more than 150,000 square feet of conference space certified by the International Association of Conference Centers. There are 1,042 rooms and suites and 118 meeting rooms. Q Center offers T3 Internet bandwidth, wireless and LAN setup, and a full-service, on-site event production team.
In Central Florida, Streamsong Resort is scheduled to open in fall 2013 on 16,000 undeveloped acres between Orlando and Tampa. It will offer approximately 140 guest rooms, five villas, and more than 20,000 square feet of indoor meeting space. The resort has two 18-hole golf courses.
The Peabody Orlando has completed a $450 million expansion that took more than two years. The hotel now features a 32-story tower, 1,641 guest rooms, 300,000 square feet of function space, a 22,000-square-foot spa, three pools, and 10 restaurants and bars. In addition to the new space, the Peabody Orlando's 891 existing guest rooms were also renovated in the style of the new tower.
The new Blue Harbour Spa has opened at the all-suite Wyndham Grand London Chelsea Harbour. The opening of the spa is part of a hotelwide refurbishment, which has already seen the launch of a new penthouse floor and the redesign of the interior and a number of outdoor spaces. The 158-suite Wyndham Grand's six meeting rooms include the Grand Ballroom, which seats up to 600 guests for a banquet; and two rooms on the Penthouse Level, the Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge meeting rooms, both offering river views and accommodating 60 people.
Opening this month in Park City, Utah, Montage Deer Valley features 154 guest rooms and more than 66 suites and private residences. Located atop Empire Pass, it has more than 55,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including two ballrooms and a 5,200-square-foot grand terrace. Also on site: the 35,000-square-foot Spa Montage with 29 treatment rooms.
Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk-Downtown celebrated its grand opening in November. The 285-suite hotel is located right on the Riverwalk at 125 East Houston Street. The full-service property features 11,589 square feet of meeting space and can accommodate meetings of up to 900 people indoors. It also has outdoor terraces that can be used for receptions or other gatherings. The property features celebrity chef John Besh's Franco-German-inspired brasserie, Lüke, the chef's first venture outside of the New Orleans area. With a pub-like atmosphere, Lüke will offer a panoramic Riverwalk view.
In October, the 162-suite InterContinental Suites Hotel Cleveland began a major renovation of all guest rooms, common areas, meeting rooms, and restaurants that should be complete by April 2011. Cozy seating areas in the lobby will offer comfortable spaces for guests to relax. The new Wi-Fi Café will provide a way for guests to stay connected while enjoying light refreshments. A redesigned Mediterranean-style restaurant will offer cuisine that promotes good nutrition. Guests will be able to order healthful alternatives to standard room service cuisine, including items that fit the Cleveland Clinic's GO! Foods requirements for healthy eating. An expanded fitness center will feature cardiovascular machines and a free-weight station. The hotel's expanded meeting facilities will showcase technology upgrades and an experienced meetings and events staff.

The Charles Hotel in Boston has named Gina Rodigou, CMP, as the new director of sales and marketing. Rodigou comes to the Charles from Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
Andrew Pena has been appointed director of sales and marketing at the new Dallas Marriott City Center. He will oversee the renovation of this first Marriott property in downtown Dallas.
