Teaming up with the Orange County/Orlando Convention and Visitors Bureau, Starwood Hotels and Resorts donated $20,000 to purchase a ventilator for the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children in Orlando during the annual meeting in January of the Professional Convention Management Association.
The equipment provides oxygen to children with congenital heart disease. During a press conference at the meeting, a cardiologist from the hospital thanked Starwood and the Orlando CVB for donating the equipment, and told them how the night before he had used such a ventilator to save the lives of two children.
Starwood's senior vice president of industry relations, Dave Evans, said, "We are excited to build upon a tradition that we started last year during the PCMA annual meeting." Evans said that by cutting back on amenities spent at the meeting, the hotel chain could donate the money each year for a piece of hospital equipment for children.
