Good Neighbors Make Good Meetings
"I can't believe it's early Monday morning and we are smiling about contracts," said Edwin L. Griffin Jr., CAE, president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International. The Monday morning was November 2. The occasion--the opening session of the first joint meeting sponsored by MPI and the International Association for Exposition Management. Even though the two organizations' offices are five minutes from each other, they had never before joined forces.
From Contact to Contract: Meetings and Exhibitions Contracts Forum, held at the Rosemont (Ill.) Convention Center, attracted 228 attendees, including 160 meeting planners.
Sessions covered the ins and outs of negotiating venue contracts in today's seller's market. Both MPI and IAEM were satisfied with the meeting, and at press time, the organizations were deciding whether to sponsor the meeting again next year.
