Lanai
Lanai is Hawaii's most secluded island. Once the home of Dole pineapple plantations, the island is 98 percent owned by Dole Foods, which has turned the island into a private park with two five-star resorts. It's a treat for groups that have been to Hawaii many times and seek its quiet beauty.
The Lodge at Koele is patterned after an English hunting lodge with a Hawaiian flair. The Lodge has 102 exquisitely appointed guest rooms, an orchid house, putting greens, riding stables, a clay shooting course, lawn bowling, and perhaps the finest dining to be found on the islands.
The Manele Bay Hotel is designed on the model of a Mediterranean villa, with 250 luxurious rooms, a conference center, and a spa overlooking a cove. Guests of either resort can use the facilities of both.
Two exquisitely maintained golf courses, the Experience at Koele and the Challenge at Manele, are 18-hole challenges for golfers of all levels. A "must see" is the Garden of the Gods, where wind and erosion have given boulders curious shapes in a crimson landscape.
