McCormick Place Picks New CEO
Chicago's newly elected governor, George H. Ryan, has appointed his former campaign manager as the CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which manages McCormick Place and Navy Pier. Scott R. Fawell, who was not available for an interview at press time, is a newcomer to the convention industry. Up until now, he has worked in the political arena; prior to managing Ryan's gubernatorial campaign, he managed his 1990 bid for secretary of state, and served as Ryan's assistant secretary of state and chief of staff. He also assisted in George Bush's 1988 presidential campaign.
Fawell replaces Jim Reilly, who has moved to the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau as CEO. CCTB's former CEO and president Paul D. Astleford is now president only, focusing on sales and marketing.
