Association News Pamela A. Troop has joined The American Society of Association Executives as director of meetings operations. Troop most recently served as director of client services for Expovision, a housing management company serving the meetings industry. Sarah C. Varner has been named executive vice president of the ASAE Foundation. She is currently vice president of CTE Associates and director of the firm's Washington, D.C., office.
The Competitive Telecommunications Association (CompTel) has named Patricia A. Langfeld to the newly created position of vice president, marketing and development. Among her duties, Langfeld is responsible for CompTel's meetings, conventions, and trade shows. Before joining CompTel this year, Langfeld was director of meetings and exhibits for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (formerly the National Association of Life Underwriters) for two years.
In September, at the Professional Convention Management Association, Barbara Connell, CAE, CMP, took on the role of senior vice president, education, and executive director of PCMA's Education Foundation. A former chapter president and national board member of PCMA, Connell is associate executive director of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Rosemont, Ill.
Denise McDevitt, CMP, has been named associate director, New York American Marketing Association. She had been director, New York AMA Awards Programs, responsible for management of the EFFIE Awards and the Marketing Hall of Fame program.
Hotels Jim Lauster, who has spent the last 10 years as a sales executive for the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, has joined Aladdin Resort & Casino as vice president of convention sales, responsible for the resort's 75,000-square-foot convention facility.
