Not Exactly Hawaii Five-O

Move over “Hawaii Five-0,” “>Magnum P.I.,” and “Lost”: there's a new show in town — Convention TV.

To help organizations boost their meeting attendance, the Hawaii Convention Center has formed a partnership with Convention Television, a private enterprise based in the convention center. Through CTV, the center is able to broadcast information on specific conventions to some 28,000 hotel rooms in Waikiki.

“We use it to enhance the experience for delegates and exhibitors,” says Randall Tanaka, director, sales and marketing, Hawaii Convention Center. “It gives them exposure beyond the four walls of the convention center.”

Recently, delegates at the Professional Convention Management Association's annual conference in Honolulu were able to tune in to the CTV channel in their hotel rooms for information on the conference, the destination, the schedule of events, and interviews with key leaders.

CTV also helps organizations with advance promotions, explains Tanaka. If a group is scheduled to meet in Hawaii in 2006, CTV would promote the upcoming meeting by broadcasting in hotel rooms at the site of the 2005 event.

Also, CTV will shoot 60- to 90-second packages for organizations and their exhibitors that they can then use to stream on their own Web sites as well as on the Hawaii Convention Center site. CTV and the Web packages are available to any group that uses the center through a separate contract with CTV.
