Think Golf When You Think Quebec

Skiing may come most easily to mind when you think of recreation options in Quebec. But the province is out to prove that the golfing opportunities are just as good as the skiing.

Among the newest options for golf is the Le Geant, which opened in 1995 at Mont Tremblant in the Laurentian resort region. The 27-hole, par-72, 6,823-yard championship course was designed by Thomas McGroom. It is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery and features bent-grass greens, two artificial lakes, and 50 white-sand traps.

The Carling Lake Golf Club in Pine Hill, 80 minutes northwest of Montreal, has an 18-hole, par-72, 6,691-yard course with many hills--all in a gorgeous setting.

Halfway between Montreal and Ottawa, the Chateau Montebello offers a classic mountain golf course designed in the late 1920s by Stanley Thompson. The 18-hole, par-72 course underwent a three million dollar renovation in 1991.

Located approximately midway between Quebec City and Montreal, in the Maurice-Bois Francs region, is the lovely Club de Golf Godefroy, which has been touted as the most beautiful course in central Quebec. This is an 18-hole, 5,842-yard, semi-private club course.
