It's not unusual for hotels and organizations to name boardrooms after past presidents, famous Americans, or top company executives. The Antlers at Vail Resort, Vail, Colo., is a refreshing exception. It's just that the executive they named it after, Emiliana “Millie” Barela, is the executive housekeeper. Dedicating the spectacular new $20 million addition to Barela is the most exciting aspect of the project, says Rob LeVine, general manager at The Antlers. “Millie has long been recognized as the most dedicated of employees and a role model for everyone on our team,” says LeVine. “Nothing could be more fitting than to recognize this wonderful woman with the permanence of this magnificent space named after her.”

Barela has worked as executive housekeeper at the hotel for more than 30 years. She started in 1972 as a construction clean-up crew member when the hotel first opened. She earned her Certified Hospitality Housekeeping Executive designation and was named Colorado/Wyoming Executive Housekeeper of the Year.
