What's Brewing at the Spa?
If there's any doubt about the growing popularity of spas among men, then consider the latest offering from the Pacific Waters Spa at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa in Huntington Beach, Calif. A beer spa!
The Hops and Barley Double Play treatment, which started last fall at the resort, is designed exclusively for men. The treatment starts with a hops-and-barley — infused hand and foot rub followed by a scalp massage and hair nourishing remedy. The hops and barley is mixed with almond carrier oil, meaning men can enjoy a favorite barroom combination — beer and nuts — even at the spa. The session costs $85 and lasts 25 minutes.
Why hops and barley? Catherine McGrath, director of the Pacific Waters Spa, says hops have been used for centuries as a health-promoting medicine and have been known to induce a state of calmness.
This is just the first offering in a full lineup of men's treatments that will be introduced at the 20,000-square-foot spa this spring.
