100-plus Associations Adopt Social Responsibility Principles
A little more than one year after ASAE &The Center for Association Leadership launched its Global Summit on Social Responsibility, approximately 100 associations have adopted the seven guidelines for socially responsible associations that were developed at the summit.
The seven principles are designed to guide associations on becoming more socially responsible through advocacy, leadership, ethics, diversity, human rights, philanthropy and community service, and environmental and economic sustainability. They align with and complement the United Nations Global Compact, which establishes social responsibility principles for corporations.
Recently, ASAE presented its guidelines to leaders at the UN and invited UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to attend a ceremony formally acknowledging the principles at its annual convention in Toronto, August 15–18. At the ceremony, the more than 100 associations that have made a commitment to follow the guidelines will be recognized.
