Thanksgiving Event Serves 4,500 at Washington, D.C., Convention Center
The Washington, D.C., Convention and Sports Authority and Safeway, Inc. celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday on November 25 by serving turkey dinners at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center to 4,500 residents.
More than 500 volunteers served meals at the 10th annual Feast of Sharing event, which included a job fair, free clothing, as well as health screenings, free flu vaccines, and diabetes testing.
“We are proud to partner with Safeway for this significant event,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, WCSA chief executive officer and president.
Feast of Sharing community partners include the Salvation Army, Metropolitan Baptist Church, Sun Trust Bank, and Centerplate/NBSE.
“Over the past decade, the Feast of Sharing has demonstrated the compassion of the District’s residents and reminds us all to be thankful for the present and hopeful about our future for all of our friends and families," said Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.
