Bookings in Boston on the Rise
The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority is anticipating a 14 percent increase in meeting attendance in 2008 at its two facilities: the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the Hynes Convention Center.
Attendees are expected to book 620,000 hotel room nights in 2008, a jump of 3 percent from 2007, and generate $541 million in economic impact, a 9.5 percent increase over last year, according to the MCCA.
Major association conventions coming to the BCEC this year include the Yankee Dental Congress (February); National Science Teachers Association (March); American Society of Microbiology (June); National Association of Letter Carriers (July); American Psychological Association (August); American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (September); and the U.S. Green Building Council (November). Major meetings heading to the Hynes include the American Association for the Advancement Science (February); Aerospace Medical Association (May); American Political Science Association (August); American Sociological Association (August); and the American Academy of Pediatrics (October).
Overall, the two convention centers will attract roughly one million meeting attendees, up from about 850,000 in 2007.
