Hawaii Goes Micro to Woo Int'l Groups
Long a central meeting locale between East and West, the Hawaii Convention Center is adding another perk for its international meetings: multi-lingual microsites that can contain testimonials, agendas, housing information, and welcome messages from association and Hawaii officials. By clicking on the language icon, microsite visitors can view the information in their own language. The microsite is hosted on an association’s own Web site.
The microsites are part of the center’s global outreach program, which also includes using the center’s staff to identify more international exhibitors—including exhibiting at partner organization tradeshows in Asia the year before the event to help an association drum up business.
“An organization has to honestly assess its ability to reach out to its international constituents,” June Matsumoto, the center’s director of international sales and marketing, said in a press release. “If they decide that they could use our assistance, we essentially become an extension of their marketing team for international outreach. This helps them achieve their long-term goals for globalization.”
