The Convention Industry Council says that anxiety about traveling isn’t stopping people from getting back to business—including attending meetings, conventions, and exhibitions, which were a $96.4 billion industry last year.

"While some conventions and many smaller meetings scheduled the week of and the week following the attacks in New York and Washington were cancelled or postponed, the majority of major conventions throughout the U.S. will be held as planned," CIC said in a press release September 20.

One conference that isn’t changing plans is the National Safety Council’s 89th Annual Congress & Expo at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Conference organizers are not yet sure whether all 18,000 expected attendees will show, but they are adamant that the show will go on. National Safety Council president Alan McMillan said in a statement, "Even as we mourn [the] loss, we are renewed in our determiniation to continue our work on behalf of the safety and health of all Americans."

According to Orbitz, LLC, as of September 18, "The nation’s air traffic system continues to move closer to normal acttivity levels. About 5,000 flights were airborne over the United States as of 2 p.m. EDT. On a typical day before September 11, the average number of flights aloft at 2 p.m. EDT was about 5,800."
