Nonprofit Corporation Formed to Provide Victims With Free Legal Services

 

Trial Lawyers Care, Inc., was officially launced October 15 by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and state trial lawyers associations during a press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan. The nonprofit corporation will provide free legal services to all eligible September 11 terrorist attack victims who choose to make claims under the federal September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

Trial Lawyers Care will operate under the guidance of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and the state trial lawyer associations of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland and DC. The New York State Trial Lawyers Association immediately after the attacks began recruiting of hundreds of volunteer lawyers and the production of a handbook containing vital information for victims.

"If ever there were a time when lawyers could help people grievously wounded through no fault of their own – what trial lawyers do every day – this is it," Leo Boyle, President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America said.
