MPI to Recognize 2011 RISE Awards Recipients

Maarten Vanneste, CMM, author and publisher of Meeting Architecture, a Manifesto, is one of five recipients of Meeting Professionals International’s 2011 Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence (RISE) Awards. The individuals and organizations will be acknowledged at the RISE Awards presentation and lunch on July 24 during MPI’s World Education Congress in Orlando.

The RISE Awards honor individual, community, and organizational achievement, and this is the second year that the awards will be given in all three categories. Recipients are recognized for innovation, influence, global transferability, and impact.

The Belgium-based Vanneste, who is president and CEO of Abbit Meeting Support and president of the Meeting Support Institute, will receive the RISE Award for Meeting Industry Leadership for creating a discipline he has coined meeting architecture, which is based on designing meetings that achieve results focused on objectives. “His work will leave a lasting legacy on how we evolve the practice of meeting design and further emphasize the importance of meetings and events as an essential tool in creating business value,” according to the awards committee.

The RISE Award for Young Professional Achievement will be presented to recent Central Michigan University graduate Courtney Stanley for creating networking and hands-on opportunities for CMU Event Management students, including partnerships with the Country Music Association and the Boston Marathon. She has just finished a publication that outlines a program entitled, “Beyond Hands On,” which works to create partnerships with event industry organizations in return for comprehensively trained student professionals.

MaryAnne Bobrow, CAE, CMP, CMM, CHE, managing partner of Bobrow & Associates, Citrus Heights, Calif., will take home the RISE Award for Member of the Year for her volunteer efforts in the MPI community, both at the Sacramento/Sierra Nevada Chapter level and internationally.

The RISE Award for Community Achievement in Knowledge and Ideas will be presented to the MPI Minnesota Chapter for its development and execution of the Emerging Leaders Program, created to provide targeted programming to members new to the industry.

The Cape Town International Convention Centre, in Cape Town, South Africa, has earned the RISE Award for Organizational Achievement for its use of meetings and events to influence and improve the economy of its local community. In addition to providing income and jobs to Cape Town and the Western Cape, the center is an industry leader in sustainability, which other South African businesses follow.
