Charles Sadler, the executive director and chief executive officer of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals, resigned on June 22, becoming the second meetings and events industry association leader to step down in recent weeks.
Rob Bergeron, who was the deputy director of SGMP, has been named acting executive director and CEO. Details on a search to find a permanent replacement were not available.
Bergeron would not comment on Sadler’s departure, calling it a “personnel matter.” But in a letter to members announcing the change, leadership said Sadler would not be permitted to attend SGMP meetings or gain membership. Sadler had been CEO since September 2008.
Sadler resigned just days after Bruce MacMillan announced he would not renew his agreement as president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International. MacMillan’s announcement came just two weeks before his contract expired, and Chief Operating Officer Cindy D’Aoust has replaced MacMillan on an interim basis while the board completes an executive search.
