ASAE’s Canceled Tech Show Triggers Second E-Event

A March webinar series, called SnowTech 2010, will present at least six of the sessions that were canceled when a blizzard forced the American Society of Association Executives & the Center for Association Leadership to call off its 2010 Technology Conference and Expo, originally planned for February 10–12.

CommPartners, a Columbia, Md.–based online meeting company, and Web Courseworks, which specializes in online learning out of its Madison, Wis., and Washington, D.C., offices, have partnered to launch SnowTech. The series currently includes six webinars, all of which are eligible for CAE credit. More sessions may be added, says CommPartners Director of Marketing Michelle Boucher, who notes that ASAE is not involved in the webinar series but is in support of it.

SnowTech is the second event that has arisen out of the conference cancellation. A group of attendees who were already on site in Washington when the snow hit organized UnTech10 virtually overnight, a free, hybrid event that offered live and virtual sessions.

“What happened with ASAE’s conference was unfortunate, but it has created an opportunity, between UnTech10 and SnowTech, for even more people to attend the sessions,” says Boucher. “It’s a real disappointment turned into a real benefit.”

SnowTech will present two interactive webinars each day of the series—March 2, March 9, and March 16—and will later have the sessions available on-demand. The six classes include “Managing Moodle [a free application for creating online learning sites] for Members,” “Driving and Leading Technical Change in your Organization,” “Ask the Experts: Get Your Burning eLearning Questions Answered,” ”Putting Your Data to Work: Tips and Techniques for Effectively Managing Your Database,” “Using eLearning Games to Recruit, Engage, and Educate Members,” and “Work with Your Board of Directors to Formulate Online Strategy.” None of the SnowTech sessions was covered at UnTech10, according to Boucher, who says that more classes may be added.

Each webinar costs $40, with a discount if you buy the entire series. For more information, click here.
