Union and San Francisco Hotels Reach Tentative Agreement
Labor Union Unite Here’s Local 2 and the San Francisco Multi-Employer Group have reached a tentative agreement. Among the provisions are protections for the union’s health and welfare fund, pension improvements, workload reductions for housekeepers, and an increase in wages for non-tipped workers. The union also voted to recommend that its members vote to ratify the contract it reached agreement on, according to Unite Here. That vote will happen at a September 22 meeting.
The previous agreement between SF MEG, which represents the management of 13 Class A hotels in the region, and the union expired in August 2004, and the two groups have been negotiating since. In addition to the 4,200 workers employed by SF MEG hotels, the union expects that this development will affect 5,000 hotel workers at other area hotels and motels where contracts have also expired.
