In an article about media ethics on MoneyWeb, communications strategist Clive Simpkins likens a bank-sponsored media junket to what's now allowable for physicians:
- the national minister of health has reigned in the pharmaceutical industry, and has stopped dead in its tracks what used to be known as perverse incentives. So you are no longer allowed to take medical doctors away, whether you are launching a product, whether it‘s part of continuing medical education or not. So why should there be a different set of rules for the Absa execs? If they taking people away like that, it actually just is incredibly distasteful in an era where governance issues and issues of conducting your business in an ethical and moral way are so under scrutiny.
