Habla medicine?

Funny how I came across this article about docs learning Spanish through a program run by Common Ground right after I finished posting the cultural competency item below. It says that the classes are accredited by the National Academy of Family Physicians, so it counts toward their CME requirements.

Common Ground offers five levels of courses, she said, and has four instructors under contract. The classes are taught on-site; for instance, the current spring schedule features instruction at Kaiser Permanente facilities in Boulder, Lafayette and Lakewood, and at the University of Colorado s Health Sciences Center campuses at Colorado Boulevard and Ninth Avenue in Denver and at Fitzsimons in Aurora.

It also hosts "immersion trips" once a year:

Coordinated with the help of a couple of Costa Rican organizations, the group spends its days taking Spanish classes in the morning and working alongside local doctors in the afternoon.

On its recent trip, the group brought down about $10,000 worth of donated medical supplies and cash to buy medical supplies to impoverished communities they visited.
