The Baha Mar Resort is in development on Nassau’s Cable Beach, with Morgans Hotel Group signed on to manage a 300-room luxury lifestyle resort and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts set to manage and operate the resort’s planned 200-room luxury hotel. Construction on the 1,000-acre destination resort complex began in late 2010. The resort in total will offer 3,500 rooms, a 100,000-square-foot casino, three world-class spas, and an 18-hole championship Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course by 2013.

Classic and elegant, the 105-room One & Only Ocean Club in Nassau/Paradise Island is modernizing its Crescent Wing, where all 10 beachfront suites and 40 beachfront guest rooms have undergone a complete transformation, with new bedding, artwork, and the latest in technology including Jacuzzi bathtubs with TV. The One & Only Ocean Club offers a variety of indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces, including a 20-seat boardroom, a patio that accommodates 40 for a reception, and the 850-square-foot Hartford Room.

Get ready for the return of Walker’s Cay. Plans to revive Walker’s Cay fishing and diving resort in the Abaco Islands have been approved by the Bahamas Investment Authority. Once known around the globe as a premier deep-sea fishing hotspot, the resort closed in 2004. Initial plans include development of two hotels offering 100 rooms, a high-end resort spa, 18 half-acre beachfront properties, and 28 condominiums just steps from 60,000 square feet of retail boardwalk. A yacht club featuring restaurants and a 2,800-foot runway capable of accommodating twin-engine planes also are planned.

The newest meeting space on Grand Bahama Island is at Pelican Bay at Lucaya, which recently opened the Canal House, with more than 40,000 square feet of meeting space, including a breakfast/special function restaurant, a lounge, and four separate meeting rooms that can be combined to create two larger rooms. Continental Airlines now offers daily nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Marsh Harbour, Abaco; and offers seasonal daily nonstop service from West Palm Beach to both Nassau and Freeport.

American Airlines now offers daily nonstop jet service from Miami to George Town, Great Exuma. Also, American Eagle has resumed daily nonstop seasonal service between Miami and Treasure Cay, Abaco.

Delta Air Lines now offers nonstop service from Atlanta to George Town, Great Exuma, on Wednesdays and Sundays.

AirTran Airways now offers daily nonstop flights to Nassau from Atlanta, and several nonstop flights per week from Baltimore/Washington, and Orlando.
