Independent meeting planning giant Conferon Inc. in June acquired The Bellwether Group, a site selection and meeting planning services company that also operates www.meetings.com. This increases the number of new Conferon rep locations by seven, those being Nashville and Jackson, Tenn.; central New Jersey; and the metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Sacramento, Calif., and West Palm Beach, Fla. The Bellwether Group clients include GE Capital, Cahners Publishing, Things Remembered Stores, and others.

This follows the May announcement of a strategic alliance between Twinsburg, Ohio-based Conferon and Stockholm-based Congrex Holding BV, an international Professional Conference Organizer. Congrex's key market is Europe, but the company has operating experience in Asia, the Republic of South Africa, and South America. The alliance will expedite business referrals, and the companies plan to share resources for a range of services, including site selection, contract negotiations, project management, on-site management, housing, registration, marketing, supplier management, and expo sales.
