CHANGING FACES John Jeakins has been named vice president, Asia, for Swissotel Hotels & Resorts, with responsibility for Swissotel Beijing, Swissotel Dalian, and the company's global sales offices in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
At Wyndham International, based in Dallas, Jacqueline Goldy was recently named director of incentive sales. Before joining Wyndham, Goldy worked for the Drake Hotel in Chicago as director of sales and marketing.
Susan Newcomb, CMP, has been promoted to senior account executive for the Midwest national account office at Marriott International, based in Chicago. Newcomb has been with Marriott for 11 years and is an active member of MPI.
At the Monarch Hotel, Washington, D.C., Michael Jahn has been named executive meeting manager, and Adam Rineer has joined the sales force as group sales manager. Quantella Anderson has been promoted to corporate sales manager. Since joining the Monarch staff in January 1999, Anderson has been promoted twice. Jahn most recently served as executive meeting sales manager at the Westin Fairfax Hotel in Washington, D.C. Rineer also comes to the hotel from the Westin Fairfax, where he was a group sales manager.
Matt Brody has been promoted to sales director for Disney's BoardWalk Inn & Villas, adjacent to Epcot and the Disney-MGM Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Brody will also oversee the sales team responsible for executive meetings at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Rosen Hotels & Resorts has appointed Cathy Reynolds to its Northeast national sales office, based in Parsippany, N.J. Reynolds will represent the Rosen Centre, the Rosen Plaza, and a yet-unnamed Rosen resort property, all in the Orlando area, to corporate accounts.
At Adam's Mark Jacksonville (Fla.), four new sales managers have been hired. Joanne Devine will focus on Northeast U.S. sales; Jackie Heyl is the Florida corporate accounts sales manager; Denise Marchesani will focus on events for corporate businesses and associations; and Frank Skrek's market will be meetings and conventions from the Jacksonville.
Douglas K. Lester has been appointed director of sales and marketing at Kiawah Island Resorts, near Charleston, S.C. He comes to Kiawah Island Resorts from Wild Dunes Resort near Charleston, where he held a similar position.
Kristi Kavanaugh has been promoted to director of sales and marketing at The Aspen Club & Spa, in Aspen, Colo. Before joining the Aspen Club, Kavanaugh was associate director of sales at the St. Regis, Aspen.
Andrea Greene and Shannon Gilbert have been appointed national sales managers for The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay (Calif.), completing the pre-opening sales team for the resort, scheduled to open in December. Greene will handle sales for the Northeast, Southeast, and Texas. She previously was national sales manager for The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas (USVI). Gilbert will be responsible for sales in California. She returns to Ritz-Carlton after working in sales for La Quinta (Calif.) Resort & Club.
Leticia Canizalez has been named sales manager for the mid-Atlantic region at Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado, Calif. Canizalez worked previously as senior sales manager for The Hyatt Regency, La Jolla (Calif.).
At the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort in Las Croabas, Puerto Rico, Robert Filipelli has been named director of sales and marketing and Michael Crist has been appointed associate director of sales. Filipelli's 17-year career in hotel sales has included stints at the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort & Towers in Miami Beach and The Pointe Hilton Resort in Phoenix. Prior to signing on with the El Conquistador, Crist worked for the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., as well as at other Marriott properties.
GOING PLACES The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa is set to open in December in Santa Ana, N.M., 20 miles north of Albuquerque. The 350-room resort was developed on Native American land in partnership with the Santa Ana Pueblo. Each guest room opens onto a private balcony or patio with views of the Sandia Mountains. The property will offer 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 12,000-square-foot ballroom. Open-air courtyards, gardens, an amphitheater, and a 10,000-square-foot outdoor ballroom are available. The 13,000-square-foot spa will have 18 treatment rooms, and a fitness center will offer classes. A Gary Panksdesigned golf course, Twin Warriors Championship Golf Club, is on-site.
Hilton Hotels Corp. staked its claim on New York's revitalized 42nd Street with the June opening of the Hilton Times Square. The lobby of the 444-room property is on the 29th floor of a retail and entertainment complex that includes a 25-screen megaplex and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Each guest room has two dual-line phones with data ports, high-speed Internet access via the TV, and a safe that can accommodate a laptop computer. Eight meeting rooms--6,000 square feet--accommodate groups of 10 to 150 people. Noted restaurateur Larry Forgione operates the lobby restaurant and will be the exclusive caterer for meetings.
Four world-class resorts, a golf club, and the city of Indian Wells, Calif., have joined forces. The group includes Hyatt Grand Champions Resort, Indian Wells Resort Hotel, Miramonte Resort, Renaissance Esmeralda Resort, and the Golf Resort at Indian Wells, which together offer 1,275 rooms and suites, 100,000 square feet of meeting space, three spas, four fitness centers, 36 holes of golf, 38 tennis courts, and 10 restaurants. The 286-room Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa in Houston is renovating all guest rooms, public areas, and the Forest and Juniper ballrooms. The property includes the 125,000-square-foot club, a private health club, and spa.
* BEYOND BORDERS * Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed the managementfor the 308-room Sheraton Twin Towers Hotel & Suites in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, with an opening date set for early 2003. Plans include 11,000 square feet of meeting space, a health club, and two swimming pools. Starwood has also announced it will manage the 215-room Sheraton Hotel Bilbao in Spain. The hotel is set to open in mid-2002.
* Bass Hotels & Resorts has purchased the 400-room San Juan Grand Beach Resort & Casino which, after a $17 renovation, will emerge as the Inter-Continental San Juan Resort & Casino. The beachfront resort, in the Isla Verde tourist area, offers 18,600 square feet of meeting space and a 10,000-square-foot casino.
