* CHANGING FACES Chuck Floyd has been promoted to senior vice president of sales, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Chicago. An 18-year Hyatt veteran, Floyd was most recently vice president of sales for Hyatt. Christie N. Hicks has been promoted to vice president-national sales at Hyatt. Hicks was previously assistant vice president of sales.

Mark Z. Nelson has been appointed national director of corporate sales for the Resorts Division of MeriStar Hotels & Resorts. Nelson will be responsible for working with the meeting and convention industry for South Seas Resort on Captiva Island, Fla.; Radisson Twin Towers in Orlando; and the Doral Palm Springs Resort in Palm Springs, Calif. He will be based in Hershey, Pa. Gregory J. Martinez has been named director of sales for MeriStar Resorts' Sanibel and Captiva properties, including South Seas Resort, Sundial Beach Resort, and Sanibel Inn. Martinez was most recently director of group sales at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas.

D. Bradley Kent has been named vice president of national sales for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, based in Dallas. He will be responsible for developing and maintaining national accounts programs for groups and corporate travel. Kent was director of sales-worldwide accounts for Hilton Hotels Corporation in Chicago.

Scott W. Boone, formerly vice president sales & marketing, Americas, has been appointed vice president sales & marketing, North America, at Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts and Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, part of the Atlanta-based Bass Hotels & Resorts.

Eduardo Ymay has been named vice president, marketing and sales, for Presidente Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts Mexico. Ymay previously served as vice president of Mexico's Grupo Real and Camino Real Hotels.

Raymond D. Slavin has been promoted to vice president, sales and marketing, North America at Warwick International Hotels, New York City, where he has served as group director of marketing since 1994. Also at Warwick, Shari D. Orland has been appointed director of sales. She most recently was assistant director of sales and marketing for Novotel New York.

Terry Keenan has been named vice president of regional sales for the Opryland Lodging Group. He will be based in Washington, D.C. Keenan was director of national accounts, regional director of sales, and national director of sales for Loews Hotels in Washington.

Joe Critelli has been appointed senior national sales manager for the Opryland Hotel Florida, which will open in 2002 in Osceola County. He was previously assistant sales director for Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando. Mike Mason has been named director of sales for the Opryland Hotel Florida. Mason was director of sales for the El Conquistador Resort and Country Club in Las Croabas, Puerto Rico.

David A. Bagwell has been named director of marketing at the Walt Disney World Swan and Walt Disney Word Dolphin in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Bagwell was vice president and general manager for the PGA National Resort & Spa in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Mary I. Neister has been named director of sales and marketing at the Sheraton Boston Hotel. Neister was most recently West Coast director of hotel sales at the Warner Center Marriott Woodland Hills, Calif. Also at the hotel, Mary Grace McCaffrey has joined as director of group and convention sales. McCaffrey was New England area director of sales and marketing for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.

Carol Vail is director of sales and marketing at the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Princess. She was director of marketing at the Claremont Resort and Spa in Berkeley, Calif.

At the $100 million Hilton Boston Logan Airport, on schedule to open in September, Beth Stehley has taken on the role of director of sales and marketing. Stehley has previously worked for Westin Hotels & Resorts Towers as director of sales and national sales manager, and for the Sheraton Boston Hotel & Towers as director of corporate sales and national sales manager.

Tim Smith, director of sales, has been appointed director of sales and marketing at The Hilton Milwaukee City Center.

Linda Price Topp was recently appointed director of sales and marketing at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. Prior to her appointment, she worked for the Hilton in Milwaukee as senior sales manager.

Kimberly W. Murden was recently appointed sales and marketing director at the Chesapeake (Va.) Conference Center. Murden had been a sales manager for the conference center since the facility opened in 1997.

Mauricio Aceves has been named director of sales and marketing for the Melia Cabo Real Beach & Golf Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. Aceves was previously director of sales and marketing for Caesar Park Cancun Beach and Golf Resort in Cancun, Mexico. Gabriela Verduzco has taken on the role of director of sales at the Melia Los Cabos All Suites Beach & Golf Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. Verduzco was previously sales manager for the Paradisus Cozumel All-inclusive Beach Resort in Cozumel, Mexico.

At the Claremont Resort and Spa in Berkeley, Calif., Mark A. Leonardi, CMP, has been named director of conference services. Leonardi served previously at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.

Tracey Latkovic has been promoted from associate director of sales to director of sales at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

Diana Toney has joined The Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas, as national corporate sales manager. Toney was previously senior sales manager for Hyatt Regency DFW.

Robert M. Geller is director of group sales, responsible for corporate sales, at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, N.J. Geller was most recently director of sales and marketing with SEEK Hotel Corporation at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Suffern, N.Y.

Doug McLain has been named director of sales at Puerto Rico's Wyndham El San Juan Hotel. He was previously regional director of business development for Interstate Hotels, Pittsburgh.

Deborah Graham has been promoted to assistant director of sales at the Hilton New York and Towers. For the past two years she has been director of corporate sales and senior convention sales manager at the hotel.

Chris Major has been named director of golf at Marco Island (Fla.) Marriott Resort & Golf Club. Major was previously director of golf at Mountain Shadow Marriott Resort & Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Certified Meeting Professionals (CMP) Board recently appointed Colleen A. Rickenbacher, CMP, as the new chair of the program and Linda J. Schoene, CMP, as vice chair. Rickenbacher is vice president, event planning, for the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau. Schoene is director of sales at Astrodome USA in Houston. l

* GOING PLACES The 355-room Marriott Bay Point Resort Village in Panama City Beach, Fla., recently spent $7 million to renovate its guest rooms, meeting rooms, and public space. The resort offers 40,000 square feet of function space, including the 8,000-square-foot Grand Lagoon Ballroom.

The Ritz-Carlton Chicago (A Four Seasons Hotel) has refurbished its 435 rooms, added the Premier 30th Floor of rooms and suites, and completely redone its 2,800-square-foot Presidential Suite.

A renovation and expansion project at Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa, Fla., will add 22,000 square feet of meeting space (for a total of more than 80,000 square feet), redo its 415 suites and 130 rooms, and expand its restaurants. The new, free-standing 18,000-square-foot Grand Pavilion can house exhibits, banquets, or even convert to covered parking space. Saddlebrook has two golf courses, 45 tennis courts, a European-style spa, and the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy.

The Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco is spending some $72 million to recapture its original, turn-of-the-century grandeur. The 18-month project is set for completion at the end of next year. Complete renovation of all 596 guest rooms and suites, a restoration of the building's facade, and the renovation of public areas are included in the project. The hotel offers 16,000 square feet of meeting space.

The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay on Northern California's Pacific Coast will open in fall 2000. The 261-room oceanfront resort will feature a 16,000-square-foot spa and 17,000 square feet of meeting space and will be situated between the two championship golf courses operated by Half Moon Bay Golf Links.

The Regal Bostonian recently completed a $13.5 million expansion project, bringing its total room count to 189 plus 12 suites. The central addition is an eight-story brick wing topped by five penthouse-level guest rooms and suites. The hotel expects to announce plans for a new ground-floor restaurant to be operated by an independent restaurateur.

The historic Ford Plantation recently opened its gates to small corporate meetings. The 1,800-acre retreat, Henry Ford's former winter residence in Savannah, Ga., offers golf, spa, fishing, sporting clays, and other recreational options. The 18-hole championship course at Ogeechee Golf Club is the only Pete Dye course ever built for a private patron. The Henry and Clara Ford residence serves as a Main House for guests, with dining facilities, a meeting room, library, and five guest rooms. Additional guest rooms are located throughout the plantation. Recommended group size is from 18 to 30 people, but larger groups staying in Savannah-area hotels can use the retreat's facilities.

*BEYOND BORDERS The Melia Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has wrapped up the first phase of its $8 million renovation program. Half the property's 245 rooms have been redone and three meeting rooms, which accommodate up to 700 for a reception, have been renovated. The Thalasso Spa & Fitness Centre will open later this year; more than 3,600 square feet of meeting space and a high-tech business center will be added; and the remaining rooms and public spaces will be renovated.

The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa in Fife, Scotland, is adding 23 new guest rooms, including 16 suites, bringing the total rooms to 148. Set to open next May, the new development extends the hotel's frontage onto the 17th tee and fairway of the Old Course.

Sonesta Hotels, Resorts & Nile Cruises has added the Sonesta Resort & Country Club Tuscany to its portfolio. Located on the Poggio dei Medici Golf Course, in the Mugello region of Tuscany, the 31-room resort is a 30-minute drive from the Florence airport. The rooms are located in four restored farmhouses, while a 16th-century residence, the Villa di Cignano, has the resort's reception area, lobby, restaurant, lounge, and meeting rooms.
