Here are some do's and don'ts of booth etiquette, as prescribed by Unique Venues (www.uniquevenues.com), Avon, Colo.
Do
-
Be outgoing and enthusiastic.
-
Be aware of body language — no hands in pockets.
-
Stand, don't sit. And stand in front of, rather than behind, any obstacles, such as a table. It's less confrontational.
-
Smile.
-
Listen and ask questions.
-
Be neat.
-
Be confident.
-
Be early. Arrive at your booth and be ready to go before the show starts.
-
Acknowledge everyone and start conversations.
-
Offer a little something — candy or useful giveaways — to attract people to your booth.
Don't
-
Eat in the booth.
-
Talk to co-workers when customers are in the booth.
-
Tear down the booth before the show is over.
-
Waste time (yours or your potential client's).
-
Run out of business cards.
-
Have too much staff — it can be intimidating to attendees.
-
Wear uncomfortable shoes.
