Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa Blends New Luxury and Old Fashioned Charm

On April 1, Bermuda's first new resort in 37 years, Tucker's Point Hotel & Spa, opened in Tucker's Town. The property is part of the Tucker's Point Club, a collection of luxury residences and amenities, and offers 88 rooms and suites as well as ample meeting space. Guest rooms are decorated with classic British-style furnishings and artwork, yet feature modern amenities like complimentary WiFi and flat-panel TVs.

The property also features a 12,000-square-foot spa with 10 treatment rooms, a 1,900-square-foot fitness center, and a croquet lawn. Groups have a private dining option in the Wine Room at the hotel's Point Restaurant. A 5,000-square-foot conference center provides multiple meeting rooms, a business center, complimentary WiFi throughout, and an IT support staff.

Guests of the resort also enjoy access to all Tucker's Point Club facilities, including an 18-hole Rulewich-designed championship golf course, pro shop, pools, restaurants, and tennis courts. Getting groups in and out is not a problem either. The resort offers transportation to and from the Bermuda International Airport, located just 15 minutes away.

Golf and Spa Resorts

Ojai Valley Inn & Spa
Ojai, Calif.

The News: A two-year, $90 million renovation added rooms and updated the entire property.

Specs: 308 guest rooms, George C. Thomas-designed 18-hole championship golf course, tennis center, three pools, the 31,000-square-foot Spa Ojai with 28 treatment rooms, four restaurants, and 20,000 square feet of meeting space

Extra: The resort has a “green” program in place, and recently replaced the majority of its incandescent light bulbs with soft-light fluorescent bulbs in all guest rooms.

Arizona Grand Resort
Phoenix, Ariz.

The News: The resort is completing a $52 million renovation, and recently redesigned its 18-hole championship golf course.

Specs: 640 all-suite accommodations, 20,000-square-foot athletic club and spa, waterpark, six pools, golf course, five restaurants, and 117,000 square feet of meeting space.

Kingston Shores
Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The News: The property's new 14,000-square-foot conference center was completed in January 2008.

Specs: 385 guest rooms, 48,000 square feet of total meeting space, tennis, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness club, multiple restaurants, and a par-72 championship golf course located across the street

Extra: Guests have access to all amenities at sister property Kingston Plantation.

InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa
Scottsdale, Ariz.

The News: A new resort opened in Paradise Valley, a residential enclave of Scottsdale.

Specs: The 35-acre resort includes 253 guest rooms, six restaurants, a 31,000-square-foot spa, five pools, and more than 27,000 square feet of event space.

Time Frame: Opened in November 2008

The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain
Tucson, Ariz.

The News: The new resort will open fall 2009. The Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and 50,000-square-foot clubhouse have also recently opened at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain.

Specs: Once complete, the resort will feature 250 guest rooms, three restaurants, fitness center, spa with indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, three ballrooms, and five meeting rooms.

Sè San Diego

The News: The new property opened last December.

Specs: The 184-room hotel features more than 20,000 feet of meeting space, including a two-story Grand Ballroom. Also on site is a 32-seat private screening room, a business center, the Sè Spa, a rooftop pool deck, and a restaurant and lounge.

The Waldorf=Astoria Orlando

The News: The new resort will be the first Waldorf=Astoria built outside of New York.

Specs: The 497-room property will offer a Rees Jones-designed golf course, a pool with private cabanas, The Waldorf=Astoria Spa by Guerlain, multiple restaurants, and 28,000 square feet of meeting space.

Time Frame: Scheduled for an October 2009 opening

Hawaii News

Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa
Maui, Hawaii

The News: The hotel completed a $50 million restoration in January 2009.

Specs: A member of the Waldorf=Astoria Collection, the hotel features 780 guest rooms, including 52 suites. Function space totals 100,000 square feet and includes the 28,000-square-foot Haleakala Ballroom.

Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio
Honolulu, Hawaii

The News: The hotel recently completed a $65 million renovation.

Specs: 601 guest rooms; 17,000 square feet of divisible meeting space, including the 8,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom; 24-hour business center; 24-hour restaurant; and a fitness center

Extra: The hotel is located just steps from Waikiki Beach, Kuhio Beach, Queen Beach, Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park.

Honua Kai Resort & Spa
Maui, Hawaii

The News: The property completed the first phase of construction in January 2009, opening 318 of its 628 suites.

Specs: The resort will feature 628 one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites. The lobby, pool, fitness center, and four meeting rooms are already complete.

Time Frame: The remaining suites, a lobby café, restaurant, two pools, and a spa will open in spring 2010.

Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas
Kauai, Hawaii

The News: The property opened in April 2008 on Kauai's north shore.

Specs: The resort features 173 two-bedroom villas, four pools, three whirlpools, a two-story clubhouse, a restaurant, a general store, and a fitness center.

Extra: Bordering the property are two championship golf courses, The Prince and The Makai.

News Makers:

  • Hilton Hawaii has named Julie Makii Reiser senior sales manager, focusing on the western region of the U.S. Reiser will be responsible for the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa, Hilton Waikoloa Village, and The Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa.

  • Lori Louis has been named sales manager for The Allison Inn & Spa, opening in August 2009 in Newberg, Ore.?Most recently, Louis served as a conference manager for Conference Solutions in Portland, Ore.

  • Cricket Wagner has been named the new vice president of sales for TradeWinds Island Resorts in St. Pete Beach, Fla. Wagner will lead group sales, conference services, and catering for both properties. Most recently she was director of sales and marketing at the Westin Harbor Island in Tampa.

  • The Resort at the Mountain in Mt. Hood, Ore., has appointed Janet Johnston as director of sales. Before joining the resort, Johnston served as director of sales for the Salishan Spa & Golf Resort and the Courtyard by Marriott in Portland, Ore.
