2008—Cool Tool Award

GuideStar Research's MeetingMetrics has taken home the 2008 technology prize from EIBTM, the Barcelona, Spain-based meetings and incentives exhibition. The show's annual WorldWide Technology Watch competition, chaired by Corbin Ball, CMP, CSP, Corbin Ball Associates, honors technological innovations that have a positive impact on meetings, conventions, incentives, and exhibitions.

New York-based MeetingMetrics came out No. 1 in a field of 38 applicants for its online meeting results measurement process. The system provides customizable pre- and post-meeting surveys, and gives meeting managers access to real-time, online results.

The judges were won over by the tool's ROI survey builder and online meeting ROI report center, which has been endorsed by the ROI Institute; a library of more than 1,000 meeting-related survey questions; and an online, in-meeting, session-evaluation survey, providing session- and speaker-rating reports.

Here are the runners up for 2008:

  • MeetingMatrix's PlanView.Net — provides online room diagramming and meeting space viewing

  • a2z Inc.'s a2zGADGETS — allows users of its show-management software to see customized key performance indicators in the form of widget technology

  • Vision Tree Conference — allows organizers to interact with attendees using mobile devices.

  • Fish Software — uses RFID tags to measure attendee movement in an exhibition hall.
