David Rich
Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing/Worldwide, George P. Johnson, North Easton, Mass.
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?
Do I have to pick only one? The whole stretch from Monaco to St. Tropez, or Wailea, Maui.
What's playing on your iPod?
There are rock classics, including early Kinks, Beatles, and Eric Clapton; two incredible artists from my home state of Massachusetts, Cassandre McKinley and Lori McKenna; Sinatra; and the latest country artists like Tim McGraw. Also, some low-profile but high-quality acoustic music, like Cheryl Wheeler, David Mallett, and Tom Rush. My friends might be surprised to see Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, and Kanye West on there, too.
It's time for a second career, what do you choose?
Film director. Film is the ultimate storytelling canvas. It's rich, it's large, it's collaborative, and it's pretty permanent.
What's your hidden talent?
Magic. It was my first career. TV, clubs, etc. I quit because I didn't want to live out of a suitcase. The joke's on me.
Who inspires you?
Writers. Filmmakers. Painters. Great storytellers across all formats. Philosophers. Dreamers and doers like Richard Branson — creators and innovators, no matter the field. But most of all, my son Jameson, who triumphs over adversity every day, thanks to his spirit and the support of my wife and the work of hundreds of medical professionals, and who hopes one day to be a great filmmaker.
What is your greatest strength?
Perseverance. When I believe in something or want something I am in all the way, no hesitation. Winston Churchill was right. When you know deep inside you're aimed in the right direction, never quit.
If you could be a superhero, what super power would you want?
No question it would be teleportation. Time is the most valuable asset anyone has and more of it would be a gift.
