The News: The resort's 7,000-square-foot casino reopened after a $5 million expansion.
Specs: 600 guest rooms, including 72 suites; 48,000 square feet of function space; two 18-hole golf courses; 7,000-square-foot spa and fitness center
Time Frame: The remodeled casino opened in November.
Extra: The Rio Mar is set on 500 acres, not far from El Yunque National Rain Forest and the Mameyes River.
Harrah's Resort Atlantic City
Atlantic City, N.J.
The News: The first 12 floors of the new 960-room, 44-story Waterfront Tower, the tallest building in Atlantic City, opened in March.
Specs: New rooms are 504 square feet in area, with 42-inch LCD flat-screen TVs and iHome systems. The resort now has a total of 2,590 rooms, as well as 25,000 square feet of meeting space in eight rooms. Amenities include a 23,000-square-foot Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, a new 620-seat Waterfront Buffet, and a 172,000-square-foot indoor pool complex.
Time Frame: Remaining 32 floors will open in July.
Extra: McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant will open this summer — the first time the chain has opened in a casino property.
Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino
Las Vegas
The News: The resort held its grand “opening” in November to celebrate completion of its multimillion-dollar transformation from The Aladdin. The resort did not close during the conversion process.
Specs: 2,500 guest rooms, 75,000 square feet of meeting and convention space in 17 rooms, full-service business center
Aquarius Casino Resort
Laughlin, Nev.
The News: The resort's 1,907 guest rooms, including 90 suites, have been remodeled in a contemporary style.
Specs: 30,000 square feet of meeting and event space, 7,000-square-foot spa
Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in St. Charles
St. Charles, Mo.
The News: This $265 million facility's 400-room, all-suite hotel opened in December.
Specs: 20,000-square-foot conference center and meeting space; 7,000-square-foot spa
Time Frame: Hotel and conference center are open; spa scheduled to open later this spring.
Extra: The hotel is next to a 130,000-square-foot casino vessel.
Cherokee Casino Resort
Tulsa, Okla.
The News: The resort is undergoing a $125 million expansion and construction project that will make it the largest gaming destination in Oklahoma.
Specs: The facility will encompass approximately 337,000 square feet and will include a 20-story, 350-room hotel tower (the resort now has just 150 rooms); a spa; convention center that will seat more than 1,000 people; and an event and concert arena.
Time Frame: The expansion is expected to be complete in early 2009.
