James Spellos
(CMP, President of Meeting U. and a popular technology trainer/educator and conference speaker)
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?
Home. I travel way too much. What's playing on your iPod?
I have nearly 4,000 songs on there: new releases from Ray Davies and Steve Winwood, along with stuff from my band (more on that later). Always lots of Beatles and Grateful Dead.If you could be a superhero, what super power would you want?
The power to stop different religious and ethnic groups from fighting with each other. We have to all join together. When your life story is made into a movie, who should they cast as you?
Either Jerry Garcia (I'm looking more like him as I age), or my brother Peter (who's an actor in TV and films). Peter would know me better, but Jerry played a much better lead guitar line. What's the best book you read in the past year?
I don't read much fiction. My fave in the past year was This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession. Great analysis on why music means so much to us all. What's your hidden talent?
Not sure if it's that hidden (or that much of a talent), but I play guitar, keyboards, write songs, and lead a rock band, Contraband. We're recording our first CD now.Who inspires you?
Many folks, but it has to start with family. My Mom, brother, and wife all inspire me in different ways. What is your favorite cause/charity?
Rock and Wrap It Up (www.rockandwrapitup.org). Its focus is to deliver excess food to people in need. More people in our industry should stop thinking about legal liability and start delivering the excess food from hotel banquets to those who need it most. How do you strike a balance between work and your personal life?
I don't work for a living … I play for a living. I truly love what I do, and I'm not ashamed to take time off.
