MGM Grand

By the time you read this, the slot machines will be clanging, roulette wheels will be spinning, card dealers will be dealing, and restaurants will be in full swing, serving top-notch cuisine at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Conn.

The $700 million facility opens this month as a standalone hotel connected to Foxwoods Resort Casino by a pedestrian concourse. A total of 825 guest rooms and suites range from 388 square feet in the standard guest room to an amazing 2,352 square feet in the two chairman suites.

If you're headed to the resort for a meeting, you'll probably get a chance to see the 50,000-square-foot pillarless ballroom, part of the resort's 115,000 square feet of meeting and event space. It's the largest hotel ballroom in the Northeast. Together, Foxwoods and MGM Grand offer 170,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Of course, there is no lack of amenities here. A 21,000-square-foot spa with 14 treatment rooms is available to soothe frazzled nerves, a 4,000-seat theater offers top-notch entertainment, and four restaurants cater to discerning palates. Famed chef Tom Coliccio, head judge on television's Top Chef, offers Craftsteak, with steak and seafood incorporating seasonal ingredients sourced from family farms. Alta Strada features Italian fare. There is even a branch of New York's Junior's Cheesecake, the first outside New York state.

Shrine, a nightclub, Asian kitchen, and lounge, is billed as the Grand's “hub of nightlife.” The 20,000-square-foot venue offers Vegas-style entertainment and modern interpretations of Asian cuisine.

Just across from MGM Grand is Lake of Isles, named one of the finest public golf courses in the country, offering 36 holes designed by Rees Jones as well as a golf academy and clubhouse.

MGM Grand at Foxwoods is 2.5 hours from New York City, less than two hours from Boston, and within an hour of Providence and Hartford. Gaming options include 1,400 slot machines and 53 table games.
