Saints and Surgery
Against all the odds, Alcon Laboratories Inc. held a meeting for international eye surgeons October 14-15 in post-Katrina New Orleans, broadcasting a medical procedure live via satellite. The meeting's miracle workers included (left to right) destination management specialist Bonnie Boyd, president of Bonnie Boyd and Company; New Orleans' most famous chef, Paul Prudhomme (the surgeons were his restaurant's first post-Katrina guests); Carol O. Duke, BS, global medical education director, Alcon Laboratories; Stephen F. Brint, MD, the renowned eye surgeon who labored to get his flooded eye surgery center up and running; and Hans Wandfluh, president and general manager of New Orleans' Royal Sonesta Hotel, which hosted the group.
