If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
What's playing on your iPod?
I love music and have an eclectic palate, so it's hard to choose what to share. The Clash, Nina Simone, Wilco, Johnny Cash, Tom Jones, Beethoven, to name a few…
It's time for a second career, what do you choose?
I would write more books and host a radio show.
When your life story is made into a movie, who should they cast as you?
What's the best book you've read in the past year?
I usually have several going at once. I really enjoyed When the Body Says No, by Gabor Mate, M.D., and The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson.
What's your hidden talent?
Who inspires you?
Nhan and Trang Nugyuen, my Vietnamese friends who fled a refugee camp in Vietnam and triumphed to live the most joyous life after enduring the worst possible series of events. They have forgiven everyone and everything that happened to them so they would not pass on the grief and pain to their children.
If you could trade places with anyone (living or from history) for a week, who would you choose?
Neil Armstrong. Taking the first steps on the moon and seeing Earth from that vantage point would be absolutely staggering. Plus, I would really like to float in zero gravity.
What do you do to stay healthy?
I became a vegetarian a year ago, walk every day, and try to choose foods that make me feel good. I laugh a lot and say what's on my mind.
How do you strike a balance between work and your personal life?
My friends, family, and my dog, Ruby, all help keep me pretty grounded and focused on what matters most.
