• The 839-room Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand, recently debuted its 174-room Krungthep Wing's refurbishment. The rooms feature private balconies with views of the Chao Phraya River and the hotel's extensive gardens. The 16-story wing has its own entrance, lobby, and reception area, as well as restaurants, swimming pool, and Jacuzzi. The hotel has 23 function rooms, including a grand ballroom that can seat 1,600 people theater-style or 1,000 banquet-style.

  • The 577-room Hilton Sydney, Sydney, Australia, will close November 29, to reopen in early 2004 after a $400 million renovation. The completely refurbished property will have 577 guest rooms and a convention center. The 18-month project includes a new world-class convention and conference center that will accommodate up to 3,000 attendees and a ballroom that will seat 1,200 people.

  • The 471-room St. Kitts Marriott Royal Beach Resort & Spa, St. Kitts, will open during the first quarter of 2003. The resort will have 12,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a 7,100-square-foot ballroom that is divisible into three sections; additional meeting rooms with 5,000 square feet of space; and a boardroom and terraces for pre-function receptions and events. A championship 18-hole golf course, operated by Marriott Golf, will also be on-site.

  • The new Hilton Sâo Paulo Morumbi, Brazil, is a $90 million, 485-room property with 13,000 square feet of meeting facilities that include a full-service business center. Several restaurants and lounges are on-site.

  • On Mexico's Pacific Coast, the 250-room Meliá Azul Ixtapa Beach Resort & Conference Center, Ixtapa, Mexico, recently began a $19 million expansion. After an early 2003 completion, the property will have 398 guest rooms and a new convention center featuring a 5,500-square-foot foyer and a 19,254-square-foot main meeting room as well as 12 breakout rooms and an executive board room. The conference center will accommodate 1,800 people banquet-style.

  • The Oberoi Group's luxury resort, Udaivilas, recently opened in Udaipur, India. On 30 lakeside acres, the 90-room property has an on-site spa, and 4,300 square feet of meeting facilities including six meeting rooms and a boardroom. The resort is located in Rajasthan, between Delhi and Mumbai.
