  • Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc. has acquired The Orchid at Mauna Lani on the Island of Hawaii from an affiliate of Colony Capital LLC. In December, Fairmont officially reflagged the property as The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii. The resort is on 32 beachfront acres along the Kohala Coast, on the northwestern coast of Hawaii.   • Beijing's five-star China World Hotel is in the final stages of a $30 million renovation. Recently launched facilities include 120 Horizon Club rooms, a two-floor executive lounge, a new spa, and a redesigned health club featuring Beijing's only Oxygen Room. All meeting rooms have been redesigned and include wireless broadband connectivity. A grand lobby and a new restaurant will debut soon. Shangri-La has introduced a free “airport butler” service for guests of China World who book hotel limousine transfers. The airport butler meets the guest directly outside the aircraft gate on arrival to escort him or her through immigration, baggage claim, and customs. The traveler enjoys a private check-in at the hotel. On departure, the airport butler meets the guest's limousine curbside with a luggage cart, preprinted departure card, and airport departure tax in hand, saving the traveler a 20-minute wait in line to pay the tax. www.shangri-la.com

  • The soft opening of the 471-room St. Kitts Marriott Royal Beach Resort & Spa on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts has been rescheduled for February. It will be the 10th property in Marriott and Renaissance Offshore Resorts' portfolio. Owned by Royal St. Kitts Beach Resort Ltd., the resort is on the Atlantic coast on the windward side of St. Kitts, a 10-minute drive from Basseterre and the airport. The five-story main building features 237 guest rooms. Between the main building and the beach, a series of three-story garden houses surrounding the swimming pools house an additional 234 rooms. There will be 12,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a 7,100-square-foot ballroom divisible into three, meeting rooms offering 5,000 square feet of space, and a boardroom and terraces for pre-function receptions and events. The resort will have six restaurants, two bars, a disco, a 15,000-square-foot spa. three swimming pools, tennis courts, a 35,000-square-foot casino; and an 18-hole golf course, operated by Marriott Golf. www.marriott.com
