If the exhibitors of the Outdoor Retailer show have their way, the show will be pulled from Salt Lake City unless state officials agree to do a better job of protecting Utah's wilderness areas.
Recently, the Department of Environmental Protection reversed the federal wilderness distinction that had been placed on 6 million acres of land. That reversal prompted an editorial by Peter Metcalf, president of Black Diamond Equipment Ltd. and a member of the Outdoor Industry Association, that suggested that the group look for a new location for the show. The association does not produce the show, but the majority of exhibitors and attendees are members.
“We want to spend our money with those who understand the concerns of our industry,” said OIA president Frank Hugelmeyer.
