GOING PLACES * International Conference Resorts of Colorado Springs, Colo., announced that Tiburon Capital, LLC, of San Francisco, acquired the Ocean Place Conference Resort in Long Branch, N.J., from Olympus Real Estate Corporation of Dallas, Texas.

The move is significant, says R. Davidson Parriott, vice president, ICR, because a Tiburon affiliate also owns another ICR-managed property, the Carefree Conference Resort in Carefree, Ariz. Tiburon Capital, LLC is a privately owned real estate ownership and management company headquartered in San Francisco, Calif.

ICR Chairman and CEO Gene A. Keluche says that the Ocean Place Conference Resort, with its recently completed $9 million renovation, will be positioned as ICR's northeast flagship. It has 254 guest rooms and suites, 30,000 square feet of dedicated meeting space including two 10,000-square-foot meeting rooms, state-of-the-art media and telecommunications capability, and a full-service health spa.

Carefree recently completed construction on the first units of a 160-suite addition, which will expand the resort from its 249-room capacity to approximately 270 guest rooms and suites in 2000, to 320 in 2001, and to more than 350 in 2002. The expansion will also add approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting facilities.

* The final phase of a seven-year, $100 million revitalization culminates this year at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla. The 595-room resort's famous Ocean Course, the oldest 18 holes in Florida, is being completely redesigned and is scheduled to open in November. A 38,000-square-foot clubhouse will open by the end of the year.

* The renowned golfing mecca of Pinehurst, N.C., opened its newly designed No. 4 course recently. Tom Fazio designed the course, incorporating Pinehurst's rolling terrain and aiming to match the challenge of Pinehurst's famed No. 2 course, which was designed by Donald Ross. Also at Pinehurst, the Holly Inn reopened last spring.

* The 18-hole, 6,200-yard championship golf course at Skytop Lodge in the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania is surrounded by 5,500 acres of wilderness. Skytop spent $1.5 million to upgrade the course and opened the $5.7 million Inn at Skytop at the "19th hole." Designed for executive retreats, the 20-room Inn works well for companies who want exclusive meeting space. In addition to golf, guests can try flyfishing and the resort's 12-station sporting clay course.

A longtime favorite with international convention and meeting groups, Toronto has worked diligently to market itself as a reputable year-round incentive destination. The largest city in Canada, Toronto has 4.8 million residents who represent more than 80 ethnic groups. It offers more than 5,000 restaurants and in excess of 45 downtown hotels.

Toronto boasts more golf courses per capita than any other North American destination, with more than 130 golf courses in the metropolitan area alone. More than 60 percent of U.S. residents live within a one-hour flight of Toronto, making it one of Canada's most easy-to-get-to destinations.

Off-site venues are plentiful here and include unique sites as the Design Exchange, Canada's premier design and exposition center and one-time home of the Toronto Stock Exchange; the Hockey Hall of Fame; the tallest building in the world, the CN Tower; the Bata Shoe Museum; and SkyDome, the world's only sports and entertainment complex with a fully retractable roof.

Galleries include North America's only museum dedicated to ceramics, the Textile Museum, and a new permanent jewel collection at the Royal Ontario Museum, featuring more than 1,000 gemstones and gold specimens. (Canada is one of the world's leading gold producers.)

There's no lack of major meeting sites, either. They include the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the National Trade Centre, the Congress Centre, and the International Centre.
